The Bergen Standard
at West Side
About this space
Welcome to The Bergen Standard — a rare opportunity to stay in a true historic Jersey City brownstone, fully gut-renovated and redesigned with the kind of refined craftsmanship that most renovations only aspire to.
From the moment you walk in, the scale of it registers: soaring 11-foot ceilings, original exposed brick, intricate custom millwork, restored historic spindles, a decorative fireplace, and statement chandeliers that cast the whole space in warm, layered light. This is what classic New York architecture feels like when it's been treated with genuine respect — and then paired with every modern comfort a guest could want.
The centerpiece of the main level is the kitchen: a marble waterfall island with seating for six, a full luxury stainless steel appliance package including a gas range, dishwasher, and fridge with filtered water and icemaker, and a craftsman bay window breakfast nook that seats four. It's a kitchen designed for people who actually cook — and equally impressive for those who just want somewhere beautiful to have their morning coffee.
The open living area flows naturally from the kitchen, anchored by an L-shaped designer sofa bed, a 55" Roku Smart TV, and those signature ceilings that make every room feel like a statement.
Upstairs, the primary suite offers a king bed with hotel-style memory foam bedding, blackout treatments, and a private ensuite with double vanity and a soaking tub with frameless glass panel. The second bedroom features a queen bed and convertible chair bed. A third bedroom on the main level offers another queen, a dedicated workstation, and its own convertible chair — giving groups real flexibility across sleeping arrangements. The common bathroom features a walk-in shower with frameless glass.
In-unit washer and dryer, central mini-split heating and cooling, one dedicated private parking space included — plus additional free street parking. The private deck completes a package that's genuinely hard to find this close to Manhattan.
Staying in a historic brownstone is a bucket-list NYC experience. At The Bergen Standard, it comes with private parking, 11-foot ceilings, and a marble waterfall kitchen. Journal Square PATH is 8 minutes away. Times Square is 30 minutes. Newark Airport is 18 minutes. MetLife Stadium — home to FIFA 2026 — is 20 minutes by car.
This is Jersey City at its finest.

Zara provided a wonderful seamless experience. Zara was flexible, helpful, professional and friendly. The instructions were crystal clear and easy to follow. The checkout was very simple. Lyft picked us up and dropped us off right outside the door and it was easy for us to get to and from all our dinner and baby shower reservations. The home was beautiful and we had plenty of seating and conversations in comfort. We would definitely look to book again through Zara for future trips for our group who traveled from DC (roomy and visible parking), Tennessee, Arizona, and Utah.
I have stayed at many Airbnbs globally and I am not easily impressed, but I was unexpectedly very impressed with Zara's property. It was important to me to find nice accommodations easily accessible to NYC. Zara's place exceeded my expectations. Her responsiveness was as impressive as her beautiful property. She was equally reasonable and kind. It is obvious her attention to the details is exceptional as evidenced by a place beautifully curated with lovely decor and amenities. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the careful selection of; the furniture and their placement, light fixtures, lighting, accent walls, wall fixtures, bed and couch linen, the layered linen and blackout curtains for the naturally well lit property, reading nooks, workspace, coffee, tea, and wine bar, soaps, spice selection, towel racks, and even the toilet paper holder. Unbeknownst to me, my stay at Zara's place was going to be the remedy following an emotionally charged couple of weeks. I would book again!
Zara was the most responsive and proactive host I've ever had on Airbnb. Communication was seamless from start to finish. The interior was both beautiful and comfortable, making it easy to relax after a day out. The location was incredibly convenient. Liberty Science Center was right nearby, and it was just as easy to get into Manhattan for museums and exploring. My kids were genuinely upset that we had to leave, which probably says it all. This was an easy 5-star stay for us, and we wouldn't hesitate to book again.
Absolutely loved the stay, Zara was extremely proactive and was able to assist us with issues even if we encountered minor issues at 11pm at night. 10/10
We stayed here for a family event that was within walking distance. This was perfect for our family of 6 - myself, my husband, our 2 young boys and my in-laws. We loved that each bedroom has a twin pullout bed in it - our 4 year old likes to sleep with us when we travel and this was great for him. We also found the beds to be very comfortable, and we appreciated that there were plenty of towels. The apartment is gorgeous and seems brand new - it is beautifully decorated and the kitchen was very well appointed. Onsite parking is amazing too! While the area is quite transitional, it's so close to NYC and there are some wonderful local spots to check out in the neighborhood. We recommend the bakery and coffee shop Tiny Topiary, with homemade sourdough breads and other baked goods and very cute ambience. We also got takeout from ITA Italian Kitchen which we highly recommend! My husband took the kids to Liberty State Park which they loved. Stay here - you won't regret it!
